Floating Pattern presents a powerful optical illusion in which a sphere seems to float centrally in a square space. The whole composition is filled with repeating oval patterns in vivid colours such as yellow, red, black, purple and green. These patterns cover both the sphere and the surrounding walls, so that the distinction between object and background almost disappears.
The square framing gives the impression of depth, as though the viewer were looking into a tunnel or niche in which the sphere has been placed. Through the perspective and the continuous patterns everything seems to move, as though the space were breathing or drawing inwards in pulses. The sphere acts as the visual centre and reinforces the sense of three-dimensionality.
The whole has a hypnotic and almost psychedelic character. The play of repetition, colour contrast and geometry challenges the eye and evokes a feeling of wonder and mild disorientation. The painting balances between order and chaos and invites the viewer to keep looking and to discover new details each time.
