About this work

Recessed Colour presents an abstract, digital composition in which colour and form flow softly into one another. At the centre stands a lightly recessed square, as though the canvas were curving inwards. Within this frame, organic, rounded planes of colour move in tones of purple, pink, green, yellow, blue and red. The colours are transparent and layered, so that they overlap one another and form new shades.

Around the central square the play of flowing forms continues, but somewhat more diffusely and darkly, which gives the centre extra emphasis. The edges of the square produce a subtle effect of depth, almost like a window or a display case in which the colours are caught. The whole evokes associations with water, reflections of light and slowly moving forms, as though one were looking at an abstract aquarium or a dreamlike underwater landscape. The atmosphere is soft, lively and meditative, with a clear focus on harmony and movement.
