Pleated Colour presents an abstract composition of undulating, organic forms that seem to move across the painting like soft pleats. The colours are rich and saturated: deep purples, vivid pinks, warm orange, yellow, green and turquoise alternate in flowing paths. Black contours wind through the image and emphasise the movement, as though the colours were under tension or slowly shifting. The background is built up from large planes of colour that overlap one another, producing a layered effect and suggesting depth. The forms recall fabric, smoke or dreams flowing into one another. The whole has a dynamic yet at the same time dreamlike atmosphere, in which there is no fixed centre but in which the eye goes on wandering along the rhythmic lines and streams of colour.
