About this work

Threads of Colour presents an abstract, flower-like composition built up entirely from fine, thread-like lines and vibrating colours. From a vivid red and orange centre countless lines radiate outwards, like the stamens of an exotic flower or the core of an energetic explosion.

Around this midpoint, repeating, undulating forms unfold that recall petals or shells. These are built up from densely woven patterns in green, yellow, blue and purple, creating a rich, almost textile-like surface. The background is dark, which makes the play of colour all the more intense and luminous. The whole has a strong dynamism: the eye is drawn back again and again to the centre, while the rhythmic patterns and shifts of colour evoke a sense of movement, pulsation and organic growth. The painting balances between nature and abstraction and calls up associations with both a flower in bloom and a cosmic or energetic phenomenon.
