Four Spheres presents a playful, abstract composition in which four spherical circles take centre stage, arranged in a square. Each sphere has a colour character of its own: pink, blue, orange and yellow, and is built up from countless small dots in contrasting tones. These dots give the spheres an almost mosaic-like, luminous skin, as though they were made of glass or enamel.
The background consists of a softly merging rainbow of colours, likewise built up from dots and planes of colour, so that foreground and background blend visually into one another. Subtle shadows beneath the spheres create an illusion of depth, so that they seem to float above the plane. The whole radiates a feeling of cheerfulness, balance and childlike wonder. The crisp square ordering contrasts with the playful choice of colour and the round forms. The painting evokes associations with play, optimism and digital pop art, and invites the viewer to keep discovering how colours and patterns influence one another.
