Chromatic Portal presents an abstract, layered space recalling a vista or a tunnel, built up from several rectangular frames running ever further inwards. Each frame is saturated with intense, transparent colours lying over one another: vivid green, cyan, magenta, red, yellow and deep blue. The paint-like textures and smears give the whole a raw, almost organic character, as though the colours had been smeared out, spattered and built up again. Through the repetition of the frame a strong sense of depth and perspective arises, drawing the gaze of its own accord towards the central square. That centre seems to glow and acts as a visual horizon or core.
The painting balances between order and chaos: the crisp geometry of the rectangles contrasts with the free, expressive movements of colour. The work evokes associations with an inner journey, a passage to another dimension, or the idea of looking through layers of time, memory or consciousness. The emotion is intense and absorbing: energetic, mysterious and lightly disorienting at once. It is a painting that does not stand still, but invites the viewer to disappear into it.
