Woven Orbit

About this work

Woven Orbit presents a powerful play of geometry, movement and colour, in which a spherical form takes centre stage as though caught in a weave of rectangular planes. At the middle a round, almost three-dimensional form dominates, built up from warm tones of red, orange and green. This sphere seems to turn or to breathe and contrasts with the crisp, square structure around it. The surrounding planes form a mosaic of overlapping rectangles that slide over one another in layers and give the feeling that space is being deformed.

The colours are intense and saturated: fuchsia, purple, lime green, turquoise and deep red flow through one another like marble. Within each plane subtle, organic patterns are visible, as though liquid paint had been fixed within a crisp grid. This creates a field of tension between order and chaos, between control and spontaneity. The whole evokes associations with captivity and protection at once: the sphere seems imprisoned, but also carried by the network around it. The painting invites longer looking, in which new depth, rhythm and connections keep becoming visible. It is a visual meditation on movement within limits and on how energy makes its way through structure.
