Elton John

About this work

In this portrait I present Elton John as colourful, idiosyncratic and unmistakably himself. His face is constructed from geometric fields of colour that refer to the many phases of his life and career. The large pink glasses are more than a recognisable accessory: they symbolise the courage to view the world from an individual perspective. The butterflies surrounding his head stand for freedom, transformation and vulnerability, recalling his ability to reinvent himself continually without losing his artistic core.
